What to Bring

• A good quality 2-4 person tent with vestibule
• extra tent pegs and rope
• large tarp to cover the tent (waterproof tents aren't really waterproof: extra protection is needed)
• Sleeping Mat (therma-rest) or sleeping cot.  Inflatable mattresses tend to get punctured and won't last the season.  Do not bring a foamy as they will get wet due to condensation and won't dry out.  Make sure you are sleeping on a comfortable and dry surface.
• Sleeping Bag (good to -10)
• extra Blanket for cold nights
• pillow, small broom, dustpan
• folding chair

• drinking cup
• Headlamp
• toilet paper
• Large Lunch Tupperware Container

• duct tape (people tape their fingers to protect the skin from splitting.  Used for most other equipment repairs... a must have for bush life)
• zip lock bags (keeps your toilet paper dry)
• Personal hygiene items (toothbrush, shower items deodorant, nail clippers etc.) Bag to carry them that you'll take to the shower
• 2 shower towels 
• dry bag
• Tylenol, Advil Etc.
• antihistamines
• personal medication 
• allergy medication
• needle and thread
• extra boot laces
• reliable waterproof watch with alarm
• day backpack
•  bag for laundry to laundry mat (some use garbage bags)
• money ($500 recommended for start up costs, eating on days off,)
• flashlight

• Sun block (spf 45 or better)
• hand moisturizer (okeefs:  your hand get dry from putting trees into the hard rocky soil all day)
• Pocket knife
• water jug (4-6 litre)
• slides or sandals to wear to showers (or in showers)
• extra shoes to wear on offdays and around camp
• town clothes
• laundry pods (like tide pods) Your crew will go town once a week to do laundry at a laundry mat
• air pods (you will only be allowed to wear one during the planting day so that you are aware of your environment and can react to warning calls or communication from your crew or leadership team)
• cell phone and charger 
• data plan for your phone (wifi is not provided in remote camps:  you will be able to access wifi in town during days off)
• suitcases don't hold up:  back your camping gear in hockey bags or hiking backpacks
• books, card games, guitar, spike ball etc.  Just remember what you bring is going to get dirty.

 Tree planting gear can be purchased before the season starts.  Talk to your crew leader for further information. Prices are approximate.

• 3 Pouch Planting Bags (approx $150)
• Planting Shovel ($65)
•  Plot chord ($15)
• Silvacool insert ($16) 
• Wrist brace (preferably with a metal plate on the underside to protect shovel hand and wrist)

 Finding the right footwear is key to a profitable planting season.  Here are a few options:

• Steel-toed and steel shank boots are recommended but not required.  Make sure walking in them is comfortable and they aren't too heavy.  You'll be taking well over 20,000 steps a day.
• Lots of people wear Viking Cork Boots.  (you'll need at least 3 pair of "Bama" socks so that they don't rub on your foot)  They are a great option that aren't too expensive
• High quality hiking or mountaineering boots will also work. Cheap boots will not withstand the season.  Make sure they are comfortable and provide ankle stability.
• Wear the same socks you will wear planting when trying on new boots
• Liner socks are also a good investment.  They will help prevent your feet from chaffing and forming blisters.

• warm jackets - fleece is good
• bring nothing that you don't want to get dirty, wet, and sweaty!
• high quality Waterproof (not water resistant) Rain Coat.  Rainpants optional
• toque (sometimes it gets below freezing overnight...mornings are cold)
• hat (baseball, shade/bug hats are great) You'll want to wear one for protection from the sun and wind.
• thermal long underwear (may not plant in them but are nice to keep warm in camp after a long day)
• wear layers;  usually we wear  4 layers in spring (thermal underwear, cotton dress shrits (coverage from the sun) dry fit or t-shirts, sweater/fleece with jacket/ shorts with tights or flexible work pants.
• comfortable work pants/shorts (wear tights with shorts to protect your legs)
•  work gloves
• Gators (optional but recommended) help protect your boots from getting sticks and water in,  etc and protect your shins from cuts and scrapes)
• insect repellent (bugs are plentiful in summer)  "Deep woods" off types
• Daypack: you'll need a backpack-type bag to carry your lunch, water, bug spray, duct tape, and TP.  Drysack is optimal.
• Socks and extra socks.  You'll need a clean pair of socks every day, plus extra for days off and evenings.  Socks take a beating with the amount of time spent on your feet.  
• Dry fit underwear is recommended.
• Clothes for days off (swimsuit, jeans, nice t-shirt)
